Jackie Bowie on Bloomberg: UK Budget Outlook

Markets reacted calmly to the U.K.’s latest Budget, though economic pressures for households and businesses remain.

Speaking on Bloomberg TV, Jackie Bowie, Managing Partner at Chatham Financial, said the Budget was “less damaging than expected,” helping to steady investor sentiment by avoiding major fiscal shocks.

“Markets were braced for something much tougher,” Bowie noted.

“Instead, this Budget preserves some fiscal headroom, which has supported confidence.”

Looking ahead, Bowie cautioned that while fiscal restraint may limit additional inflationary pressure, it is unlikely to materially change the near-term path for interest rates. Cost-of-living pressures remain elevated, meaning relief for households is likely to be gradual rather than immediate.
